The vase is doing its best to hold everything together. The flowers have other plans.

Part of my Outgrowing series, this mixed-media painting sets a vivid red vessel against a deep blue-green ground, with loose orange, blue and red flowers pushing above it. Collage and layered marks give the vase a textured, worked surface.
